Brief: To create both an infographic poster and animation to present key facts, statistics and data to a lay audience. The topic of focus was climate change. Working in a group of 3, we chose to look at the issue of beef consumption and its effect on the environment. We researched and wrote the content of the infographic as well as designing it.
We chose to employ a somewhat cold and blunt tone with the use of all caps and a condensed sans serif in order to maintain seriousness, appropriate to the topic. This allowed us to get away with the ‘fun’ collage style which has natural implications. Our main challenge was deciding how best each of the 3 facts should be visualised in order for them to be easily comprehendible.
A lot of my focus was on the animation which accompanies the graphic. It was a good opportunity for us to expand on the communication of our data and get more creative. The three numerical values are visualised in subtly different ways, and the type appears in time with the voiceover to sustain attention.
Below is a selection of images of our developed collaged graphics, and an image showing our exploration of the different ways to visualise the data we had selected.
