Brief: To design a responsive website for desktop and mobile on the theme of ‘health’. I decided to theme my website on boosting the immune system, given its importance and relevance following COVID-19. This project involved a great depth of user research and testing, which acted as the foundation for the functionality of the website.
Immune is a website that aims to improve people’s immune health by providing them with the information that is relevant to them. It provides personalised suggestions and helps people to establish a routine with reminders so that they can take action to improve their lifestyle, if and when they need to. It is for anyone needing to improve their immune strength, either due to an existing health condition, or for those unsure about the status of their immunity.

I began the intensive user research process by first determining the potential user groups associated with my chosen topic: immunity. Evidently, my user group could involve ‘everyone’, yet being more specific was useful. I identified people in different scenarios of vulnerability and extents of knowledge. I then carried out two user interviews, developed user personas, journeys and subsequently page flows and a site map.  All of my findings from my user research drove the direction of both the functionality and design of the website.
The following pages from my project report demonstrate this research and design process.

The page from my project report detailing the design system for Immune. It is designed modularly in order to ensure good usability via familiarity of elements, and the easy construction of new pages.

My users needed:
Information about their immune health, relevant to their specific condition, that they can act on – Immune provides this via ‘Evaluate me’ by asking the users questions before presenting them with information
Commitment to lifestyle changes to improve their immune strength – Immune aids this by encouraging users to set up reminders for their recommended goals, providing them with a clear list, and encouraging them further with recommended and relevant articles

This project reminded me of the value of defining the design from the user, and let me experience a fully-fledged UX design process. As a result of my user research and testing, my outcome functions efficiently and meets my users’ expectations.
